I was on one of the platoons that was taking part in the "trial". We weren't aloud to watch movies, use headphones to listen to music, or play video games on your laptop. If we wanted to listen to music, it had to be with something like an Ipod Dock. We were only allowed to use the electronics after 6pm, even if the day was finished before that. As for cell phone use, the "official rule" was 30 minutes a night.
I don't see this as a bad thing at all. My Platoon had ONE Voluntary Release.. and I do believe it had something to do with us being able to call home easily every night, and deal with the small problems that arose.
