Thank-you for posting that. I still have little bits and pieces of ND994 UL-F2.

10,643 RCAF airmen were KIA in Bomber Command.

Sounds like a good book.
This is from the Juno Beach Centre:
"There are no words with which I can do justice to the air-crew who fought under my command. There is no parallel in warfare to such courage and determination in the face of danger over so prolonged a period, of danger that at times was so great that scarcely one man in three could expect to survive his tour of thirty operations... It was, furthermore, the courage of the small hours, of men virtually alone, for at his battle station the airman is virtually alone. It was the courage of men with long-drawn apprehensions of daily 'going over the top'."
-- Sir Arthur Harris, from Bomber Offensive.

Even 65 years after the end of the Second World War, Bomber Command has yet to be given an official public memorial or campaign medal:

Discovered this organization devoted to the preservation of airfields in Britain (Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust).
A really neat site that is making significant progress to recognize and enhance public awareness of airfield history, importance and heritage.
Worthwhile checking out!

Thank-you for that information, Doering.

I have had in interest for many years in 550 Squadron, North Killingholme:
http://550squadron.wordpress.com/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/550squadron/

and 576 Squadron, Elsham Wolds:

550 and 576 were both Lancaster squadrons.
It is important to remember that the RCAF posted most of their aircrew to RAF stations. Many RAF KIA can be seen on the honour rolls of those two squadrons.

Thank's for that.
I don't know how many of you have seen or heard our Lancaster do a fly past but what a beautifull sound the 4 Rolls Royce engine's make.

Toward's the end of the War my mother left school and ended up in a factory in Liverpool making the batteries for Lancaster's.

Glad you enjoyed Spr. Earl!
Yes, I have seen a couple of videos showing numerous women on the Lancaster assembly lines. The women were an integral part of fully operational Lancasters.

Appropriate that I should find this thread today; happened to be writing down the day's date (6 Dec 10) and wondered why the date tickled my memory.  Took a while, but I remembered; 6 Dec 40 -- my father joined the RCAF. Less than three years later he was in Britain, serving w/ 405 Pathfinder Sqn. He wasn't aircrew, but a "fitter" (aero engine tech). He started out on Halifax bombers, but wound up of course on the "mighty" Lanc.

Enjoyed seeing the video. Actually got to see the CWH Lanc in flight here in Edmonton two summers ago; quite a moment.

But the other thing that struck me...6 Dec 40...seventy years ago! :yellow:

:salute: to your father ( wherever he is )

405 ( Vancouver ) Squadron was the only Canadian Pathfinder squadron. They carried out more bombing raids than any other Canadian squadron, and sufferred heavy casualties.

Thank-you for that, Doering.
They certainly paid a high price: "The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), with personnel in 15 squadrons within Royal Air Force (RAF) squadrons, lost 11 000 of its 17 100 deployed personnel.":

We criticize the government in many ways, but I am impressed with the current TV ads (produced by the Canadian government) that I have seen depicting the men and women who served through WW1 to the present.
